Many people were “frozen” by the extreme Ternuɾɑ of this slug of mɑɾ.
The strange beauty of the caɾacoƖ мaɾino CostasieƖƖa kuroshιmae
The answer will surprise many of you.
This is one of the smallest sea slugs in the world because it feeds on water and is capable of photosynthesis.
Sea slugs absorb genetic codes from algae and begin producing chooroplasts to convert sunlight into energy.
They only need to eat… only once in their trips and then stay in the sun to avoid dying of hunger.
The next generation of slugs still inherits this genetic code from their parents (phenomenon of horizontal gene transfer), which makes them eliminate the evolutionary limit that has existed for thousands of years.
However, the sea slug Costasella kuroshimae still needs to “eat” algae to prevent this gene from disappearing.
